Privacy Policy for Phishing Detector – AI Powered
Last Updated: November 1, 2025
1. Introduction
Phishing Detector – AI Powered ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome extension that helps users detect potential phishing content.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Chrome extension and any related services or website (collectively, the "Service").
2. Information We Process
2.1 Information You Provide via the Extension
- Selected Text or Content: When you select text or trigger the extension, the selected content may be sent to our backend API for phishing analysis.
- Analysis Results: We return and display phishing probability scores or safety classifications within the extension UI.
2.2 Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect
We do not intentionally collect or store the following through the extension:
- Your name, email address, or other direct personal identifiers
- Your browsing history
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
- Device identifiers
- Precise location data
- User accounts or profiles
Important: Avoid sending highly sensitive personal information (such as passwords, credit card numbers, or government IDs)
through the extension. The tool is meant to analyze suspicious text, not to process confidential data.
2.3 Technical Information
When the extension contacts our API, our hosting provider may automatically receive standard technical information, such as:
- IP address
- Browser type or user agent
- Date and time of the request
These logs are used only for security, debugging, and to keep the Service running reliably. We do not use this information to build user profiles
or for advertising.
3. How We Use Information
- Phishing Detection: To analyze the submitted text using machine learning models and determine if it may be phishing or suspicious.
- Displaying Results: To return a phishing probability score or classification to your browser so you can make informed decisions.
- Service Reliability and Security: To maintain, monitor, and improve the stability and security of our API and infrastructure.
Optional Future Use – Aggregated Analytics
In the future, we may introduce an optional feature that lets users share anonymized, aggregated statistics (for example,
how many phishing warnings were triggered overall). If we do this:
- We will not include content that can identify you personally.
- We will update this Privacy Policy to explain the feature clearly.
- Where required, we will ask for your consent.
4. Data Storage and Retention
- Text Submitted for Analysis: The text you send for analysis is processed in memory or stored only as long as needed to generate and return a result. We do not permanently store the content you analyze via the extension.
- Application Logs: We aim to minimize logging of request content. Any technical logs that may be generated by our infrastructure are used only for debugging, security, and abuse prevention, and are kept for a limited time before being automatically deleted where feasible.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not:
- Sell your data
- Share your data with advertisers
- Use your data for marketing or user profiling
6. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by the Service, including:
- HTTPS encryption for data in transit between the extension and our API
- Secure, managed infrastructure for hosting
- Restricted access to backend systems
7. Your Choices and Controls
- Uninstall the Extension: You can remove the extension from your browser at any time via
chrome://extensions.
- Limit What You Send: You can choose what text you submit for analysis. Avoid sending sensitive personal information.
- Contact Us: If you have questions about how your data is handled, you can email us or reach out on GitHub.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child
has submitted personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top. If changes are material,
we may provide additional notice (e.g. in release notes or on the project README).
